Shanghai EGT Synbio Group Co., Ltd,,founded in 2016, is dedicated to extending healthy human longevity through synthetic biology, focusing on the production of natural anti-aging active ingredients. From its inception, the company set out to overcome fundamental challenges in traditional L-(+)-Ergothioneine manufacturing—specifically, the presence of D-(-)-isomer impurities in chemical synthesis and the solvent residues and sustainability limitations associated with plant extraction methods.

Built upon proprietary technologies in directed enzyme evolution, high-density microbial fermentation, biocatalysis, and crystallization refinement, the company has established world-leading capabilities in bio-manufacturing. In 2021, it successfully commissioned the world’s first industrial-scale biotechnological production line for ergothioneine, achieving product purity and consistency that surpass global benchmarks. Supported by a pragmatic R&D team and a Scientific Advisory Board chaired by a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the company continues to advance innovation at the intersection of biotechnology and longevity science.

Its flagship products include Dr.Ergo® L-(+)-Ergothioneine (99.99%), Dr.SPD™ Spermidine Trihydrochloride (98%), and EquoPro™ (S)-Equol (99%), serving the nutraceutical, cosmetics, and functional food industries. Dr.Ergo® Ergothioneine is currently the only product in the world to hold both U.S. FDA dual GRAS certifications and to have completed clinical validation in Japanese oral beauty applications, and it remains the first and only ergothioneine legally approved for use in China.

Project Approval(2016)

In order to solve the problems of solvent and toxic impurities residue in the chemical synthesis production of ergotamine, as well as the high cost disadvantage of mushroom extraction method, and to benefit more beauty lovers and young people who want to maintain their health, we have established a research and development team to start tackling the green fermentation of ergotamine

Technical Research and Development(2016-2020)

After five years and the previous experiments. We have made continuous breakthroughs in four aspects: strain screening, fermentation scheme combination, fermentation process optimization, and purification process improvement. With green fermentation technology, we have stably produced the world's highest quality ergothionein with a quality of up to 99.9%

Scale Production(2021)

The establishment of a complete set of automated 200L fermentation equipment has achieved stable production of ergothionein, with product quality reaching over 99.9% purity, optical rotation+125 °, and total heavy metal ions below 10PPM. Modern biotechnology is used throughout the entire process to achieve truly green production of ergothionein
